Mumbai property registrations hit 14-year August high

Mumbai recorded 12,503 property registrations in August 2026, an 11% increase from the same month last year, according to figures reported on August 31. The total marks the highest number of registrations recorded for the month in more than 14 years.

The August 2026 figure is also above the previous August record of 11,631 registrations, recorded in 2024. The numbers cover registrations in Mumbai and were reported in the context of the city’s real estate market.

Stamp duty collections for August 2026 are expected to reach ₹1,123 crore, up 12% from ₹1,000 crore collected in August 2025. The expected collections were reported alongside the registration figures.

Shishir Baijal of Knight Frank India attributed the growth to sustained homebuyer interest and quality infrastructure in well-located developments. The research material did not provide a further breakdown of registrations by area, property type or price segment.
