What to expect at the Republic Day parade

India will present a broad “battle array” of indigenous and frontline military platforms at the Republic Day Parade on Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Monday, 26 January 2026. The display is designed to underline self-reliance in defence manufacturing while also signalling operational readiness, officials said, with Army columns moving in phased formations rather than purely ceremonial marching.

Among the headline systems expected on the route are the BrahMos cruise missile and the Akash air-defence missile system, alongside major ground platforms including Main Battle Tank Arjun and T-90 Bhisma tanks. Mechanised elements are also set to include platforms such as BMP-II infantry combat vehicles and the Nag missile system (tracked variant), reinforcing the focus on battlefield capability.

First-time debuts and new formations

This year’s parade is expected to feature several firsts. Newly raised units and formations will make their debut, including the Bhairav light commando battalion and the Shaktiban Regiment. Officials also indicated that the mounted contingent of the 61 Cavalry will appear in full battle gear, a departure from the force’s traditional ceremonial attire.

Other first-time elements include the appearance of Zanskar ponies and Bactrian camels, and the showcasing of a Universal Rocket Launcher System named ‘Suryastra’ that is described as capable of surface-to-surface strikes up to 300 km. A variety of drones and counter-drone capabilities are also expected to be highlighted in the broader defence presentation.

Aerial component and fly-past

An aerial component is planned as part of the Army’s phased battle array, including helicopters and reconnaissance vehicles described as indigenously designed or configured. The fly-past, typically a major crowd draw, is expected to include a mix of fighters, transport aircraft and helicopters, with formations set to feature aircraft such as Rafale, Su-30 MKI, MiG-29 and Jaguar, as well as transport and surveillance assets including C-130, C-295 and the Navy’s P-8I.

Officials said the parade will also highlight India’s development journey and cultural diversity. The overarching theme mentioned for the event is “150 years of Vande Mataram”, while the President will lead the ceremony that is scheduled to begin at 10.30 am and last about 90 minutes.
