Two injured after crane collapse at Mumbai Port

Two crane operators were injured after a crane collapsed during cargo unloading at the BPS terminal of Mumbai Port at around 7.30 pm on August 31, 2026. Ranjeet Singh and Nishant Singh were taken to St George Hospital for treatment, while the Mumbai Port fire brigade extinguished a fire that broke out during the incident.

The operation involved unloading 140 metric tonnes of cargo from the Barbados-flagged vessel Vienna using two cranes. According to the available account, a lifting strap slipped due to an imbalance, shifting the entire load onto the other crane.

The imbalance lifted the second crane off the ground. Its telescopic boom then struck the vessel, resulting in friction and a fire, the account said. The fire brigade brought the blaze under control.
