Lucknow’s Indira Gandhi Planetarium to launch immersive 3D full-dome show on ISRO’s Chandrayaan missions from Republic Day
A new 3D stereo full-dome planetarium show titled “The Moon Mission – India’s Journey to the Moon” will begin screening from Republic Day, offering an immersive look at ISRO’s Chandrayaan programme.
The Indira Gandhi Planetarium in Lucknow is set to begin screening an immersive full-dome presentation on India’s lunar programme starting Republic Day, January 26, 2026. The show, titled “The Moon Mission – India’s Journey to the Moon,” is being described as India’s first 3D stereo full-dome planetarium production, designed to combine scientific storytelling with cinematic visuals.

The 28-minute programme focuses on ISRO’s Chandrayaan missions and aims to highlight the technological and scientific milestones behind India’s journey to the Moon. The presentation uses a stereo 3D format and active 3D glasses, creating an experience where celestial objects and mission sequences appear more vivid and spatial inside the dome.
Officials said the show is expected to appeal to students, families, and science enthusiasts, with the goal of making complex space concepts easier to grasp through immersion. By leveraging modern planetarium projection technology, it seeks to turn a standard educational screening into a more interactive-feeling experience, especially for first-time viewers.
The inauguration is scheduled with senior participation, and the script is credited to Sudhir Kumar N., a former ISRO official, underscoring an effort to keep the narrative grounded in scientific accuracy while still remaining engaging for general audiences.
The Lucknow launch also places the show within a wider ecosystem of premier science centres in India, as similar presentations have been associated with major planetariums in other cities. For visitors, the timing around Republic Day adds to the public interest, when families often seek educational outings and special programming.
